Free driving lessons to help young motorists in South Derbyshire stay safe

FREE driving lessons worth £75 are being offered to new young drivers in South Derbyshire.

The Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership is offering training to help young drivers improve their skills with a three-hour driving lesson.

Drivers eligible for the training are those aged 25 and under and have passed their driving tests within the last 18 months.

The free post-test lessons – which form part of the partnership's Learn Safe, Drive Safe scheme – show new drivers how to survive the challenges they will face out on the road.

Andy Adlington, from the road safety partnership, said: "These free lessons are designed to give a skills boost to young, inexperienced drivers.

"Topics covered include motorway, town and country driving as well as night and eco driving.

"Young drivers can also get extra support before they pass their test with Learn Safe, Drive Safe. Students who choose to learn with one of our instructors are taught about the psychological challenges they'll face behind the wheel such as peer pressure and distraction.

"The great thing about the coaching is that it's designed to be delivered in-car as part of students' normal lessons.

"As a result it doesn't increase costs, lengthen the lesson or reduce the amount of time spent gaining practical experience."
